FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about Fermented & Distilled Academy classes, certificates, tasting, private groups, and how the course path works.

What is Fermented & Distilled Academy?

It is a spirits education program hosted by Holy Ghost Distillery. The classes teach production, standards, history, flavor, and tasting in a clear and approachable way.

Are these certified courses?

They are Academy-certified courses, meaning Fermented & Distilled Academy issues its own completion credentials. This should not be presented as a government license or outside industry accreditation unless a future outside accrediting body is added.

What do students receive after Level 1?

Level 1 is planned around an Academy-issued certificate of completion.

What do students receive after Level 2?

Level 2 is planned around a lapel pin or equivalent completion item, along with a deeper knowledge base than Level 1.

What do students receive after Level 3?

Level 3 is planned around a challenge coin or equivalent advanced completion item.

Do I need to take Level 1 before Level 2?

That is the cleanest path. Level 1 gives students the shared language and tasting method used later. Equivalent knowledge may be enough for some students, but Level 1 is the intended starting point.

Is Level 1 only for beginners?

No. Level 1 is beginner-friendly, but it is also useful for enthusiasts who want a clearer framework and better language for spirits.

How long is Level 1?

The current Level 1 structure is built for about 2 to 3 hours, depending on discussion, tasting, and group size.

Do classes include tasting?

Many Academy classes include guided tasting or tasting discussion. The exact pours and format may vary by class, date, and legal/operational requirements.

Are classes 21+?

Yes. All Academy classes hosted at Holy Ghost Distillery are 21+ only.

Can private groups book a class?

Yes. Private group classes can be arranged depending on schedule, staffing, space, and class type.

Can businesses or hospitality teams take the course?

Yes. The material is useful for bartenders, servers, tasting room staff, venue teams, and owners who want better spirits knowledge.

Is this a bartending class?

No. The Academy is spirits education first. Cocktail and mixology classes may connect to the same knowledge, but the core Academy path is about spirits, standards, production, and tasting.

Will I learn how to taste spirits?

Yes. Students learn a repeatable process: look, smell, sip, evaluate structure, describe finish, use water thoughtfully, and compare categories.

Do I need to drink a lot to learn?

No. Serious tasting uses small pours, slow evaluation, water, and conversation. The goal is understanding, not volume.

Where are classes held?

Classes are hosted by Holy Ghost Distillery at 990 State Route 940, White Haven, Pennsylvania, unless another location is specifically announced.
