Advanced sensory structure
Arrival, mid-palate, finish, texture, balance, heat management, flaws, strengths, and how to describe a spirit without chasing fantasy notes.
Level 3
Level 3 is for serious students who want to evaluate, explain, and guide others through spirits with confidence and accuracy.
Level 3 is the advanced path. It is not only about knowing more facts. It is about using those facts well: tasting carefully, explaining clearly, respecting standards, and helping others understand spirits without making them feel small.
The goal is a student who can connect production, law, history, and sensory evidence in a way that is accurate, useful, and welcoming.
Planned Academy-issued Level 3 completion recognition: challenge coin or equivalent advanced course completion item.
Advanced focus
Arrival, mid-palate, finish, texture, balance, heat management, flaws, strengths, and how to describe a spirit without chasing fantasy notes.
Using evidence to identify broad category, raw material, proof feel, oak influence, and likely production choices.
Reading labels more critically: class, type, age statements, flavored spirits, proof, standards, and what a label does not say.
Explaining spirits to guests, students, staff, and enthusiasts with confidence and humility.
Using history to create context while avoiding neat legends that sound good but do not hold up.
Helping others enjoy spirits responsibly while making the room feel curious, safe, and welcome.
Assessment concept
A strong Level 3 assessment should ask students to explain why a spirit belongs where it belongs, describe what they taste, and support their answer with category rules and production logic.
